Module 8: Creating and Analyzing a New Line

Use this process to create a new line from selected time studies in Squint, configure its key parameters, and review the resulting Yamazumi analysis and detailed improvement recommendations.

Creating and Analyzing a New Line in Squint

Step 1: Open Line Analysis and Start a New Line

Navigate to the Line Analysis tab to begin configuring your new line.

Select New Line to start creating a new line.

Step 2: Configure Line Details

Name your new line clearly so it can be easily identified in future analyses.

Enter the SKU associated with this line.

Enter a takt time for the line if you have it available; you can also choose to enter or adjust the takt time later.

Step 3: Select Time Studies and Create the Line

Select the time studies that you want to compare and include in this new line model.

After selecting the relevant studies, proceed through the selection interface.

Then select Create a Line to generate the line analysis.

Step 4: View the Line Analysis

Once the line has been created, open the results by clicking View to see the detailed analysis.
Squint

Squint combines the selected studies to create a model of your line and displays it using a Yamazumi chart. Each station appears as a stacked bar, with value-added (VA) time shown in blue and non-value-added (NVA) time shown in black. Each study includes recommendations ordered by priority, with P1 indicating the highest-priority opportunities. By entering a takt time, you can visualize the production pace required to meet demand. Stations that exceed takt time are easy to identify, and the bottleneck station is outlined in orange.

Step 5: Drill Down into Stations and Cycles

Below

each station, you can select an individual cycle or the entire study for more detailed review.

Step 6: Open Detailed Issue Analysis and Recommendations

Clicking on any issue takes you to Squint’s detailed analysis and recommendation for that issue. This view includes:

  • The exact timestamp where the issue was observed

  • A description of the issue

  • The priority level

  • Details of the agent used

  • The duration of the waste identified

  • A recommendation describing how to resolve the issue
